American Heritage

Coming again in the Fall of 2015! Instead of spending short bits of time traveling from place to place, this one-of-a-kind tour aims to immerse the student in the atmosphere and setting of Colonial America and the foundations of our constitutional government.

We begin in Colonial Williamsburg, an amazing living-history museum set on over 300 acres amid both original and re-constructed colonial buildings dating from 1699 to 1780. Walk among historic figures in realistic settings, hearing from Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson and local merchants who share what life was like in colonial Virginia’s capital city. Learn from authentic craftsmen, the cabinet maker, the ironsmith, the shoemaker and the taylor and watch them ply their trades. Eat at George Washington’s favorite tavern where revolutionaries once plotted the overthrow of the British government and the mistress, a renowned businesswoman just may share a tale or two about the movers and shakers in 1770’s Colonial politics!

From Williamsburg we will venture to Jamestown, home of the first permanent British settlement that pre-dated the Mayflower pilgrims by thirteen years. Then travel on to Yorktown, site of  the Revolutionary War siege that ended with the surrender of General Cornwallis to General George Washington on October 19, 1781.

Leave Williamsburg to visit Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington on our way to Washington DC While visiting our nation’s capital explore the magnificent museums of the Smithsonian Institution, the National Archives and the Supreme Court. Visit with one of our Texas Congressional representatives and observe Congress in session.
